Richard Keys and Andy Gray react to ‘Huge’ Everton takeover development today
Richard Keys and Andy Gray have labelled the Everton takeover situation with 777 Partners as “a shambles” after a “huge” new development.
The Miami-based investment firm agreed a deal with Farhad Moshiri back in September but haven’t provided proof of funds for the Premier League to ratify the deal, and have come under scrutiny for other financial issues across their businesses including a lawsuit accusing them of fraud.
That has seen the prospect of administration at Goodison Park floated, and speaking while live on beIN Sports (11 May), the pundits admitted they were stunned by a recent development that saw Josh Wander removed from the board of the football division of 777 Partners.
“The reason I mentioned they could slip into administration Monday is because if they did that, then the nine-point deduction that they would get as a result of doing so would count this season,” Keys said.
“If they leave it and in the summer find themselves in financial problems, they’ll start next season nine points down and then that’s a huge ask.
“777, this takeover has been running for three or four months, maybe longer, still no resolution. Bankruptcy experts were called in this week and theres’ been a development today which is quite interesting.
“The two guys that have been fronting this bid, Josh Wander and Steve Pascoe have both been removed from the board of the football division of 777 Partners. That football decision includes the group that they manage.”
That saw Gray jump interrupt and take a shot at the whole process.
“It’s a shambles. Is that the word you were looking for?” Gray replied.
“One thing that worried me about the statement on the previous page was that Moshiri was still under the conviction that the people he’s been talking to are the right people to take the club forward. His judgement has been flawed.”
Keys then clarified the statement was and old one and not a recent one and said that he thinks “Moshiri has changed his mind since then,” to which Gray said, “I hope so.”
Everton fans need clarity more than anyone
This situation has been coming for a number of months, and some fans have been absolutely adamant that it would be the case.
Farhad Moshiri was sure that a deal would eventually be ratified by the Premier League but with every passing day there are more red flags about 777 Partners and this now needs to come to an end.
Administration is never a good thing under any circumstances, and would be a catastrophe for the Toffees if it were to come at any point.
Moshiri is said to have other interested parties at the table, so he needs to start speaking with them and get a deal done as soon as possible to secure the long-term future of the club.
It’s outrageous that it has been allowed to come to this, and Everton fans deserve to have some clarity about what is going on with their club.
In other Everton news, a £27m deal is now in doubt as club turn their attentions to one Goodison Park star.
