Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit on cards at Everton after what Kevin Thelwell said

Chris Beesley has suggested that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be sold this summer as the Everton striker enters the final 12 months of his contract.

The club’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell, has admitted that the financial situation at Goodison Park means players will have to leave this summer.

Calvert-Lewin, who had only scored three Premier League goals up until March this season, is entering the final year of his contract, prompting Beesley to suggest Everton could cash in if no new deal is offered.

“After netting from the spot at Luton Town in Everton’s previous fixture, Calvert-Lewin – whose current contract enters its final 12 months this summer – claimed not to have thought about his future,” he wrote for Liverpool Echo on Monday (13 May).

“But rather than risk losing him for nothing, you wonder whether he’s one of those players that director of football Kevin Thelwell says will be sold in the next transfer window.”

Could Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave Everton this summer?

The 27-year-old has certainly hit a purple patch at the perfect time for the Toffees, having helped Sean Dyche’s team to secure Premier League safety by going unbeaten in five matches.

However, the striker is an injury risk and has proven exactly that in the last few seasons. Calvert-Lewin has missed 21 games through injury since 2022, which has caused a lot of frustration. [Transfermarkt]

There are no doubts over the striker’s abilities, having notched 68 goals and 18 assists since arriving from Sheffield United on a £1.5million deal in 2016. [Sky Sports]

But with just 12 months left on his contract, it could be worth attempting to see how much the star could be sold for, especially if no new contract is to be offered.

This situation could arise mainly due to Everton’s current financial situation and uncertainty surrounding the club’s takeover, or he may choose not to sign a new deal.

Either way, it could be a smart move to cash in on Calvert-Lewin before the forward sees out his contract until the end of the next season and leaves for free, as Beesley suggests.
