Fabrizio Romano shares update after Everton and Man City player swap deal mooted
No talks are currently ongoing between Everton and Manchester City over a potential swap deal for Douglas Lukjanciks, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported on Tuesday (14 May) that City are “happy” with their current goalkeeper after he signed a deal recently.
This has ended any talks of a swap deal between the two clubs which would see Whatmuff move to Goodison Park and Lukjanciks go the other way.
Alan Nixon had reported via his Patreon page (12 May) that City were willing to pay up to £10million for the 16-year-old. Now with the latest news, it appears that any potential deal is off.
Everton keen to keep Douglas Lukjanciks
It must be said that selling the young goalkeeper could help ease any FFP concerns given the fact he is classified as homegrown.
This would allow the Toffees to sell and any fee received would class as “pure profit” on the balance sheet as a result.
City have one of the best academies in the world right now so if they want Lukjanciks, he is clearly highly rated.
At 16, he isn’t going to be involved in the first team picture any time soon so £10m could represent a great deal.
Given that the Everton hierarchy were seemingly happy to turn down that deal, they want to keep a player who they rate as a top shot-stopper.
He has already been capped at England Under 17 level which goes to show just how good he is.
With the level of interest in Lukjanciks, Everton may have a wonderkid on their hands who could be a first-team star for many years to come.
