Everton ‘significant’ financial windfall mooted amid Anthony Gordon news at Newcastle United
Everton would be entitled to a “significant” financial windfall this summer if Anthony Gordon leaves Newcastle, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Writing on their website (16 May), the news outlet report that the Magpies winger has attracted the interest of Liverpool but would cost around £100m for them to let him leave this summer [Daily Star, 12 May].
But as part of the deal that saw him leave Goodison Park in January 2023, the Toffees would be entitled to a sell-on fee if he were to leave Newcastle for Liverpool or anyone else.
Everton will be hoping Anthony Gordon moves on this summer
When Gordon left the club in January 2023 it was under some horrible conditions, with fans turning against him and the player ultimately pushing his exit through.
But Everton were in a difficult position financially which meant Newcastle got him for considerably less than what the Toffees valued him at.
However, it seems as though the club were a bit smart in this situation at least by adding in a sell-on clause to the deal, guaranteeing them some extra money in the future if he turned out to be a good signing.

The club clearly backed him to go and succeed, and that makes sense considering how highly rated he was, and with a transfer possible considering Newcastle’s situation with PSR it could be shrewd business.
Any windfall will be positive considering the financial situation at the club currently, although fans would hate to see an academy graduate shining for their fierce rivals in red rather than in blue.
