Transfer update details chances of Brentford triggering clause to buy Neal Maupay from Everton

Brentford now look unlikely to sign Neal Maupay on a permanent transfer from Everton this summer, according to The Athletic.

The report on Friday (17 May) shares that the Bees aren’t going to activate the option-to-buy agreement in the Frenchman’s loan deal.

This would see him return to Goodison Park at the end of the season before Sean Dyche assesses his options over the summer.

Should Everton keep Neal Maupay?

Maupay has recaptured some goalscoring form this season which he had struggled with across his spell with Everton since signing.

He moved to Goodison Park in 2022 and in the time since has made 34 appearances for the Toffees and scored just two goals [FotMob].

By comparison, he has scored eight for Brentford despite featuring just 14 times as a starter while coming off the bench on 16 occasions.

He has scored six of his goals this season since the return of Ivan Toney, which may point towards a potential partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin back at Goodison Park.

Given that Beto and Yousef Chermiti have had poor seasons in front of goal, Maupay could prove to be a useful option on his return.

There will be calls to sell players during the summer transfer window to ease any more financial concerns for Farhad Moshiri.

The Frenchman is unlikely to garner much of a fee so he may well be worth keeping hold of for one more season at least.
