BBC Sport journalist shares what Tottenham fans were doing after Everton goal vs Arsenal
Tottenham supporters were “dancing in the stands” after news of Everton scoring against Arsenal filtered through to their fixture at Sheffield United, BBC Sport reporter Shamoon Hafez shared.
The Toffees took the lead at the Emirates Stadium through Idrissa Gana Gueye in a game the Gunners had to win to have any hope of winning the Premier League title on Sunday (19 May).
Over 150 miles away at Bramall Lane, Spurs supporters were delighted to hear of the news that Everton had scored against their fierce North London rivals.
Hafez wrote for BBC Sport’s live blog: “Spurs fans are dancing in the stands at Bramall Lane, it’s clear they’ve heard about Idrissa Gueye’s goal for Everton against Arsenal.”
He later added: “‘Shame about the Arsenal, ole oleee, shame about the Arsenal ole oleee…’ is the chant from the Spurs fans here.”
Although he did clarify that by that point Arsenal had levelled before half-time through Takehiro Tomiyasu and Everton went on to lose 2-1 thanks to Kai Havertz’s late winner.
Tottenham fans love Everton goal versus Arsenal
There was a bit of tension between Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou and sections of his own supporters earlier this week due to the opinion of some supporters that they would be happy to lose to Manchester City if it meant rivals Arsenal were handed a dent in their pursuit of the title.
Well, on this occasion, at least Postecoglou would be happy fans were revelling in the fact that the Gunners were losing in a match that had absolutely nothing to do with Spurs, who were facing already relegated Sheffield United on a baking-hot day in South Yorkshire.

Everton already had their own survival assured of course and for Toffees supporters it was just about playing the role of party-poopers at Emirates Stadium and Gueye’s goal certainly quietened a previously raucous home crowd.
Sadly, the lead did not last too long as Tomiyasu responded before the break to reignite hope inside the stadium before Havertz’s goal meant the Toffees signed off their campaign with defeat.
