Rio Ferdinand makes Arsenal Premier League title call, certain of outcome v Everton

Rio Ferdinand has offered his Premier League title prediction as Everton travel to face Arsenal on the final day of the season on Sunday (19 May).

With just two points separating Manchester City and the Gunners at the top of the league table, Sean Dyche’s men could have a very telling say on who this season’s Premier League champions will be.

Dyche will be keen for his players to end the season on a high, especially considering the drama at Goodison Park throughout the campaign, and extend their five-game unbeaten run.

Taking to X on Sunday (19 May), Ferdinand said in a video: “Can the Gunners do it? Can they rip the title out of the palms of the Manchester City lot? I don’t think so.

“Man City have been here, seen it, done it, won a T-shirt. They’re the most in-form team and the most experienced team.

“I think it’ll be a carnival atmosphere at the Emirates until we hear of something going on at the Etihad. Arsenal have to hold their heads high, taking it to the last day. If it wasn’t for Pep, they probably would have won the league.

“I think Arsenal will smash Everton today. Over the two games, no disrespect to Everton or West Ham, but they’ve already got their holidays booked with one foot in the sand. I don’t think the full focus will be there today so Man City and Arsenal will both win their games.”

Everton to impact Premier League title race between Arsenal and Manchester City

As far as history is concerned, the Toffees could very well spoil the Premier League title party for Mikel Arteta’s men, having claimed four wins against Arsenal in the last eight meetings.

Of course, a lot of things, such as form, go out the window on the final day of the season, especially when the league title is at stake.

Man City must win at all costs to lift the Premier League title, with their record-breaking fourth-consecutive league trophy in their own hands while Arsenal can only watch on and hope.

Everton only narrowly lost the reverse fixture with Arsenal earlier this season, losing 1-0 to a Leandro Trossard own goal at Goodison Park. The Toffees have come a long way since then, securing their safety in the division.

Finishing the campaign in style would be a massive boost for Dyche and his players heading into the summer transfer window, especially as without the points deductions, they could have finished in the top half of the Premier League table.
