Everton sent documents over new FFP development with Premier League vote to come

Everton and other Premier League clubs have been sent documents ahead of a vote next month on which direction to go in regarding Financial Fair Play, according to iNews.

The report by Mark Douglas on 22 May states that Premier League clubs had previously voted in favour of a new system from the 2025/26 season which includes a rule referred to as ‘anchoring’, in lieu of the current, controversial Profitability & Sustainability Regulations (PSR) that Everton and Nottingham Forest fell foul of this year.

The concept of ‘anchoring’ is described as a hard cap on spending, a consequence of stricter rules being put in place by UEFA whereby clubs outside of European competition – such as Everton – will only be able to spend 85% of their revenue on wages, transfer fees and agent payments. Clubs competing in Europe are limited to just 70%.

Everton have a call to make

With Everton already found guilty of two PSR breaches and a potential third being discussed in recent days, the club must do their due diligence on which of the current regulations and ‘anchoring’ is more beneficial for them.

The added 15% leeway in how much of a club’s revenue can be spent on recruitment, wages and agent fees towards non-European competing clubs does give Everton some breathing space, but the protracted takeover uncertainty still loiters around Goodison Park whilst pressure is on to balance the books.

The future Club World Cup and Champions League concepts will plunge more money into the European competitors over time, resulting in the likes of Everton facing a ridiculously uphill battle to reach the coat-tails of the top six even once they have recovered to some of their league positions of the 2000s under David Moyes.

The Toffees will look hard into every word of the document on their desks.

In other Everton news, the club are reportedly in for a Brazilian star.
