Roy Keane destroys Trent Alexander-Arnold after what he did as Everton beat Liverpool

Roy Keane has destroyed Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold after what he saw him do in the 2-0 loss against Everton.

This comes after the preliminary squad for England ahead of Euro 2024 was announced and Keane brought up his defensive attributes.

The 25-year-old is expected to play in midfield for the Three Lions in Germany.

Speaking on the Overlap at 1:05:57, Keane said: “I think Trent against the real top teams over there French or Germany whatever it might be in the knockout games if you’re playing Trent in there defensively he can’t defend. Like really bad I think.

“You have to defend in midfield. I don’t think he’s got (it) defensively. He dangles his leg.

“Look back at the Everton game. He’s not aggressive in defensive situations. On the ball he’s lovely. In the knockout games, if Trent’s in there and asked to do a defensive job for England against a really good team.”

Everton exposed Trent Alexander-Arnold in the win v Liverpool

Keane’s criticism of Trent’s defensive capabilities is well-founded and was exposed when the Reds took on the Blues.

The Toffees, known for their physical and robust style of play, exposed the 25-year-old’s defensive weaknesses in their recent encounter.

Keane’s comments about Alexander-Arnold’s defensive shortcomings are particularly relevant for international tournaments like the Euros, where England will face top European teams.

In such high-stakes matches, his lack of aggression can be detrimental against teams with strong attacking prowess.

Furthermore, Alexander-Arnold’s primary strength lies in his attacking contributions, as evidenced by his impressive assist record.

However, in a midfield role, where defensive duties are paramount, his weaknesses become more apparent.
