Everton handed new Jarrad Branthwaite transfer boost after latest Manchester United development
Everton supporters know that a number of their biggest and brightest stars could leave Goodison Park during the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United have already been linked with a big-money move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while Amadou Onana has been attracting plenty of interest since before the January window.
However, few players have been surrounded by more speculation heading into the final weeks of the Premier League season than Jarrad Branthwaite who is expected to leave Merseyside this summer.
The 21-year-old is understood to be a transfer target for Manchester United, however, a new update emerging from Old Trafford surrounding Erik ten Hag could potentially put the brakes on any such move.
According to Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg (24 May), the Red Devils have decided to sack the Dutchman following the FA Cup final, regardless of the result when they face Manchester City at Wembley.
United have already identified a range of potential successors, with Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettinho, Kieran McKenna, Graham Potter and Thomas Frank among the early candidates.
Will Manchester United move to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the summer transfer window?
While it remains unclear whether or not the Everton gem is of interest to United’s manager, or the board above him, Ten Hag’s exit could well stop the Red Devils from pursuing a summer move for Branthwaite.
It will certainly ensure that a move doesn’t happen early in the window as United will have to whittle down their list of potential successors and make a new appointment before they get to work in the transfer market.
Even then, the new manager may not view Branthwaite as the right fit at Old Trafford. Tuchel, Pochettinho and Potter have had signings made from them during their time at Chelsea and struggled to get the best out of the stars.
Should any of those three win the race to take over the reins of Manchester United, you would imagine they would be keen to have final say over any potential incoming or outgoings.
Regardless of what happens next, Sean Dyche will be much more confident of keeping his star defender at Goodison Park while the Old Trafford dugout remains vacant.
It may only be temporary, but Ten Hag’s reported exit could be a massive boost for the Toffees this summer.
