Senior figures at Everton react to John Textor comments about Goodison Park takeover

Senior figures at Everton were surprised by John Textor’s public comments about wanting to buy the club, according to The Telegraph.

Writing on their website (24 May), the news outlet report that the American’s comments were met with surprise as he suggested that he had held talks with Farhad Moshiri about taking over the Toffees.

But insiders close to the sale of the club believe his comments are “all a bit academic” as he would have to sell his stake in Crystal Palace before being able to move forward with a takeover attempt at Goodison Park.

Everton takeover situation remains unclear

The takeover situation with Moshiri, Everton and 777 Partners has been dragging on for the best part of a year now, with an agreement initially reached back in September.

But the Miami-based investment firm haven’t been able to come up with the funds to get a deal done, and it now looks like they never will as they face a lawsuit accusing them of fraud.

That leaves Moshiri in a pickle with a 31 May deadline meaning he can’t talk to other parties about a sale, but also because he doesn’t want to be in charge and is stuck with the club until he sells up.

Financially the club is in dire straights right now with debt coming out of it’s ears just to keep up with the running costs of the club, and Textor could provide a solution to that.

But with the hurdle that is his Crystal Palace ownership likely to cause problems, the situation remains incredibly unclear and fans remain baffled as to the future of the club.
