James Tarkowski shares what you never see from Sean Dyche at Everton

James Tarkowski has said that “you never see” nerves or worry overcoming Sean Dyche after he led Everton to Premier League safety.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Tarkowski complimented Dyche for staying calm amidst trying circumstances both on and off the pitch at Goodison Park.

The Blues ended the campaign 14 points clear of the relegation zone despite two points deductions for financial fair play breaches, going on a late-season surge of form to pull away from the bottom three.

Tarkowski said: “It’s been testing at times this year, there’s been a lot going on, on and off the field, so it would be nice to go out there next season with a clean slate.

“I’m sure it probably is tough for (Dyche) but you never see it. You never feel like he’s under pressure or that he’s nervous or worrying.”

Dyche key for embattled Everton next season

With Tarkowski playing almost every single minute at the back, Dyche’s Everton side conceded just 51 goals this season – the fourth-best record of any side in the Premier League.

That’s a solid foundation to build on ahead of the upcoming campaign, but with financial worries still casting a large shadow over the club, it could be another campaign with the Blues firmly having their backs to the wall.

Everton
James Tarkowski started all 38 of Everton’s Premier League matches this season.

The siege mentality brought about by two points deductions – which saw eight points wiped off the Toffees’ tally – will still need to be in place at the club this summer, as a nervy transfer window begins.

Tarkowski’s settled centre-back partner Jarrad Branthwaite is the most in-demand at Goodison Park, and if a big-money offer is tabled for the 21-year-old, Dyche’s vice-captain will likely be playing alongside a new face next season.

Regardless of who Tarkowski lines up alongside in August, the key to Everton’s hopes still appears to be Dyche, who has proven across several years that he is the man to help embattled sides like the Toffees become more than the sum of their parts.
