Everton set to miss out on Wilfred Ndidi transfer in John Textor twist

Everton look set to miss out on the signing of Wilfred Ndidi this summer, with John Textor-backed Lyon leading the hunt, according to Foot Mercato.

The report by Santi Aouna and Sebastian Dennis [28 May] claims Lyon are eager to quickly conclude a free transfer for Ndidi, having recovered from a lowly Ligue 1 position to qualify for the Europa League.

Lyon’s majority owner, Textor, has been mooted to be acquiring Everton’s majority stake from Farhad Moshiri, claiming he is keen on purchasing the club following negative developments in the 777 Partners saga.

Will Everton sign Wilfred Ndidi?

Everton’s interest in Ndidi may not come to fruition, but it’s unsurprising the experienced Nigerian international is on many clubs’ shopping lists.

Sean Dyche’s admiration for the now free agent has been long-standing, as one of several players out of contract this summer at Championship champions Leicester.

A technically gifted defensive midfield anchor is sought after by the Toffees, who have also been credited with an interest in Manchester City and England man Kalvin Phillips.

Ndidi’s 200-plus appearances for Leicester – the majority of which coming in the Premier League – along with his prime age of 27 make him an attractive prospect in the market, with an expected bulky signing-on fee being compensated for by a lack of transfer fee.

In other Everton news, the club have been told to cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to a league rival.
