Everton handed boost in transfer pursuit of Benfica ace Florentino Luis

Benfica are now more open to selling Everton target Florentino Luis than they were in January, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese outlet reported on its online edition [28 May] that Benfica’s stance may have changed due to striking a deal for Leandro Barreiro.

Everton are said to have previously had a €30million (£25.5m) offer rejected for Luis, but he remains a priority signing for the club this summer.

Everton clearly eager to sign Florentino Luis from Benfica

There will be plenty of players linked with Everton over the duration of the transfer window, with Kalvin Phillips the most recent example.

However, there is clearly something in these links with Luis as they simply will not go away, even after having an offer already rejected.

Luis is a central midfielder who plays predominantly in the holding role, which is an area Sean Dyche could do with strengthening.

There has been plenty of talk regarding an exit for Amadou Onana, and he will certainly need replacing if moved on before the window closes.

The big question mark, though, as highlighted in this report, surrounds the whole takeover situation at Goodison Park.

As of today, Everton are simply not in a position to bid £25m or so for a player, although hopefully that changes in the coming weeks.

Luis seems like he would be a good fit on the face of it, so let’s see where this story goes next.
