Jon Textor update emerges from Brazil after Everton takeover news

Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has been slammed as “controversial” and “absurd” after being linked with the Everton takeover.

According to Alan Nixon, Textor met with Farhad Moshiri earlier this week during a summit in Spain, alongside major moneymen, Andy Bell and George Downing.

While the American sports tycoon is currently a shareholder at Selhurst Park, he also owns shares in Botafogo, Lyon, Seattle Reign FC and RWD Molenbeek.

Speaking via The Transfers Podcast on Thursday (30 May), when asked about his links to Everton, Brazilian specialist Julio Gomes Filho said: “I don’t think Textor is helping out. I think Textor is quite controversial in the middle of Brazilian football right now.

“He came up last year, bought Botagogo and some good players, a good coach in Luis Castro. It seemed that Botafogo was on the right path but then, Botafogo nearly won the league and eventually lost it.

“Botafogo is the smallest of the big teams in Brazil, and we all say that only some things happen with Botafogo and that is what happened last year – losing a 14-point lead. Textor said the most absurd things, like the Championship was corrupt, that he had proof.”

Everton must stay wary of John Textor links at Goodison Park

With Moshiri keen to sell the club this summer, the Evertonians must make a difficult decision about who is the best choice out of a bad selection, it seems.

Fans, nor Moshiri, will exactly be filled with hope after Filho’s opinion on the Crystal Palace co-owner, though the prospect of 777 Partners purchasing the club is not exactly ideal either.

The latter’s takeover has been shrouded in uncertainty since initially lodging their interest back in September, with whole-fire sales and administration mooted.

It looked as though Textor could be the saviour on Merseyside after turning up to the party late, though the recent quotes surrounding his current investments will not fill many with the hope needed to support him purchasing Everton.

However, the club’s takeover situation must come to a conclusion soon before any more punishments are dealt out to the Toffees, and it seems like Textor might be the best bet.
