Newcastle United confident of £25m Dominic Calvert-Lewin deal to save Everton PSR worry
Everton can avoid any concerns about breaking Profit & Sustainability Regulations this summer by selling Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle United, reports the Daily Mirror.
On page 55 and the back page of their print edition [30 May], Paul Brown shared that the 27-year-old England international could make the move to St. James’ Park after being highly sought after by Eddie Howe.
Several of Everton’s key players have been linked away from the club this summer, including Jarrad Branthwaite’s pursuit by Manchester United and Amadou Onana, wanted by Arsenal.
Brown stated: “Calvert-Lewin is one of the Everton players attracting attention because of the club’s issues with [PSR].
“If he is sold for £25m or more before the end of June, it would all but ensure Everton do not breach PSR rules again next season.”
Calvert-Lewin to bid farewell to Everton?
It’s uncertain how eager Calvert-Lewin himself is to depart Goodison Park – it has been his home for eight years through form, goals and injuries.
Whilst he remains Sean Dyche’s first-choice centre-forward, the 27-year-old is now entering the final year of his current contract and is said to top Eddie Howe’s wish list on Tyneside, as Callum Wilson looks set to leave Newcastle.
But from an Everton perspective, the Toffees must do everything to ensure a far smoother year on a financial front, as new purchase talks bubble away and the club are resigned to the reality of offloading an asset or two – with Calvert-Lewin’s age and England caps bulking out his price tag.
The striker ended the 2023-24 season in fine form with four goals in his last seven league matches, in an admirably organised Dyche unit which staved off relegation with weeks of the season to spare, despite eight points’ worth of deductions for exactly what they’re desperately trying to avoid this summer.

A move to Newcastle may give him a change of scenery and a lucrative contract at a crucial point in his career, but less guarantee of game time as Newcastle look to keep hold of talisman Alexander Isak this summer.
Everton’s hand, though, is likely to be forced.
