Everton boss Sean Dyche lauded by Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have lauded Sean Dyche for the remarkable campaign that Everton had in 2023/24.
The Toffees easily avoided relegation despite being docked eight points and had one of the best defences in the league.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast on 31 May, Lineker said at 14:58: “Onto Everton. It was kind of a remarkable season for them, wasn’t it? They finished 15th with 40 minutes having been docked eight points and the season before, they were 17th. Just avoided relegation on the last day. Dominic Calvert-Lewin went a long time without scoring but ended up as their top scorer with just eight. Sean Dyche did a great job, didn’t he? Tough season for them.
Shearer responded: “Amazing. He got a shout for Manager of the Season and rightly so. He didn’t get it but deserved a shout. With what he had to put up with and with what he had available and all of those things. One of the best defensive records.”
Sean Dyche did what most Everton managers would fail to do this season
Despite facing adversity such as a points deduction and a challenging squad situation, Dyche was able to steer the club to safety and achieve a commendable defensive record.
This resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to the Englishman’s managerial skills and his ability to galvanise his team under pressure.
In contrast to many of Everton’s recent managers, Dyche did not buckle under the strain.
Instead, he used the adversity as a rallying point for his team, fostering a sense of unity and determination.
Dyche’s ability to turn a challenging situation into a positive outcome demonstrates his exceptional leadership and strategic acumen.
Furthermore, his success in the face of adversity highlights the importance of a strong, resilient manager in navigating a team through difficult times.
His skill to adapt and inspire his players, even when faced with significant challenges, is a quality that sets him apart from many other managers.
This resilience not only helped Everton survive the season but also provided a solid foundation for the team to build upon in the future.
