Florentino Luis can get best out of Amadou Onana at Everton as big-money bid submitted

Everton have submitted a bid for Florentino Luis which could allow Sean Dyche to get the best of Amadou Onana if he stays at Goodison Park this summer.

The Toffees are looking to be active in the transfer window to build on the positive campaign last time out in the Premier League.

Dyche guided the Toffees to safety with time to spare despite points deductions which plagued his side throughout the season.

These punishments were due to financial breaches which it was thought would hamper Everton in the summer transfer window.

Despite this, a bid for Luis has been reported by Correio de Manha (22 May) that the Toffees have made a £25.5 million offer for him.

This signing could allow the Toffees to get the best out of Onana next season if he doesn’t depart this summer.

There is no secret that the Belgian could depart this summer as Farhad Moshiri looks to balance the books and deal with FFP concerns.

This has seen talkSPORT suggest (30 May) that the Toffees may be “keen” to sell Onana this summer.

With that being said, if they do sign Luis from Benfica this summer, they must try their hardest to keep him and utilise them together.

This is due to the defensive excellence of the Portuguese midfielder who would act as a shield for an already great defence.

According to Fbref, he registers an average of 4.23 tackles, 2.63 interceptions and 1.93 blocks per 90 which ranks him in the top 3 per cent or higher in Europe.

Add to this his excellent passing which has seen him clock up 73.93 attempted passes per 90 with an 88.9 per cent accuracy. He is a metronome in the middle of the park.

With him at the base of midfield, Onana’s ability to push up the pitch could be unlocked and he could excel.

He likes to get forward where he can but has been hampered by playing as an out-and-out defensive midfielder alongside Idrissa Gueye at times.

Luis could be the signing that gives Everton a boost up the Premier League table next season.
