MSP Sports Capital in Tottenham investment talks after Everton development
MSP Sports Capital have discussed a new investment in Tottenham Hotspur after 777 Partners missed a deadline they set to pay back loans in Everton, according to Paul O’Keefe.
O’Keefe posted on X with an update that MSP could acquire a stake as high as 40 per cent at the London club, showing the level of capital available to the New York-based group.
According to The Independent, MSP had loaned Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri £158million for 777 Partners to pay back upon taking over the club, but their deadline of 31 May has now passed.
Moshiri granted 777 an extension from April until the end of May to complete their buyout and pay back the loan, but their failure to do so means that both the Blues and MSP Capital are now looking at other options.
Everton takeover no closer to takeover completion
Moshiri and 777 have essentially gotten nowhere across nine months of takeover talks, and MSP will be keen to ensure their £158million loan is paid back by whoever does become Everton’s new owners.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire wondered whether MSP themselves could step in as majority shareholders to ensure their loan is either returned or converted into a club asset, but the group’s reported interest in Tottenham should end that speculation.
No individual group or owner can have more than a 10 per cent stake in two Premier League clubs – as another prospective Blues buyer – Crystal Palace stakeholder John Textor – is finding out after launching a takeover bid of his own.
Regardless of what the coming weeks and months hold for Everton and their status as a club on the buyers’ market, MSP will likely remain in the picture as their multi-million-pound loan is used to help prop up the ailing finances Moshiri has overseen at Goodison Park.
