Sky Sports shares Everton takeover update on top of Dan Friedkin news on Saturday
Roma owner Dan Friedkin has become the sixth party to show an interest in buying Everton, according to Sky Sports.
It had previously been reported that five parties were vying to acquire the club, including one spearheaded by Everton fans Andy Bell and George Downing, backed by Michael Dell.
Friedkin, who has an estimated net worth of £4.8billion, now appears to have joined the race on top of those, rather than being in the initial five.
Sky Sports posted a clip of Hayley McQueen on 8 June (11:10) in which she said live on air: “Sky Sports News understands AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin is one of the groups to express an interest in buying Everton. He has an estimated worth of over £4.8billion.
“We reported yesterday that there are five different groups battling to buy Everton as Farhad Moshiri weighs up his next move following the end of 777 Partners’ exclusivity agreement. So that came to an end and the new bid is in addition to those five that we brought you the news of yesterday.”
Would Dan Friedkin be a good owner for Everton?
Following the end of a long, drawn-out saga in which Everton fans went from being frustrated at the length of time it was taking for 777 to be confirmed as new owners to being fearful that the Premier League would ratify the deal, the Toffees now appear to be spoilt for choice.
777’s failure to pass the Premier League’s owners and directors test was cause for great concern – the prospect of a financially challenged Everton falling into the hands of was a bleak one for supporters.
However, there now appear to be several viable options, including the race’s newest member, Friedkin.
His significant net worth is evidence of the financial stability he could provide and his running of Roma since acquiring the Serie A side in 2020 is further proof that he understands what it means to own a football club.
Under his stewardship, the Giallorossi appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach and won the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2021/22, reaching the Europa League final the following year.
If the American does acquire Everton, Toffees fans will hope their club can follow a similar trajectory.
