Manchester United given further boost in bid to sign Everton gem Jarrad Branthwaite
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite could complete a move to Manchester United earlier than expected after his England snub, according to Anil Kandola.
The broadcaster shared via talkSPORT [9 June] that Branthwaite not being involved in Euro 2024 ensures his club future can be resolved while the tournament is ongoing.
Branthwaite was not included in Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the competition in Germany, despite a standout campaign at Goodison Park in 2023-24.
Kandola said: “Jarrad Branthwaite is phenomenal and was unlucky to miss out on the England squad. But this is a really key factor – the Euros comes into play.
“If he’d gone, it would have prevented any deals while busy on international duty. The fact he’s at home watching with the rest of us will likely speed up that process.
“Manchester United are heavily interested in Jarrad Branthwaite, but the fact he’s not gone to the Euros means this is one that could happen quite quickly, especially with Everton’s financial issues as well. Branthwaite is one who is going to leave Goodison Park.”
Everton have big Jarrad Branthwaite transfer decision to make
From the perspective of supporters, nobody will want to see Branthwaite depart Goodison Park in the summer transfer window.
Given his age, ability and the length of his contract, the club are under no obligation to sell in that regard.
Assuming a takeover deal is struck soon, which is looking likely now, then there is even less of a reason to accept any bid from Man United.
However, should a mammoth sum be tabled – in excess of £70m, say – then it gives the club a massive decision to make.
Logic suggests that Branthwaite is only going to get better, and that Everton can get another year’s service out of him before selling for more.
Football does not always work like that, though, and that money would go a long way to improving the starting line-up in numerous positions.
Until a bid is forthcoming, however, Everton supporters can relax safe in the knowledge that Branthwaite remains a Toffee.
