Everton ready Arthur Melo transfer as Dan Friedkin development emerges

Everton could begin talks with Juventus over the signing of Arthur Melo in the coming days, according to TuttoSport.

The Italian source reported [17 June] that the Toffees’ interest in the Brazilian midfielder is “concrete” despite suggestions that the club are not interested [Liverpool Echo].

It is understood that the club will begin work on the deal soon, Dan Friedkin permitting after his takeover push at Goodison Park, which could slightly lengthen how long it takes for the transfer to be done.

Could Everton sign Juventus’ Arthur Melo this summer?

The 27-year-old might be keen to prove himself in the Premier League following a disappointing loan spell with the Toffees’ rivals Liverpool during the 2022/23 campaign.

He played just one match during a season-long loan due to injury, with his only senior appearance coming in a 4-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.

Sean Dyche will certainly be looking to reinforce his midfield ahead of next season, with Amadou Onana linked with a move away from Goodison Park amid plenty of transfer interest.

If Onana is to leave this summer, the only central midfielders left will be Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner, while 21-year-old Tyler Onyango will hope to make a breakthrough.

It remains to be seen how much a deal for Arthur would be worth this summer, though the Toffees will need to be smart with their transfer additions due to the PSR woes at Goodison Park currently.

Until Friedkin completes a takeover, the Toffees will be unable to predict what their status is going into the transfer market. However, it has been suggested that the potential new owner would invest over half a billion pounds into the club. [Corriere dello Sport]
