Everton make special request to Premier League for Goodison Park farewell

Everton have requested that the final game at Goodison Park be played on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The club are set to play their final season at the iconic stadium during the 2024/25 campaign, with a move to Bramley Moore Dock scheduled for the start of the 2025/26 season.

With the club wanting to give the fans a chance to say a proper farewell to the Grand Old Lady, a request has been granted for the game against Southampton to standalone and not be overshadowed on the final day.

Everton fans prepare to say goodbye to Goodison Park

The last few seasons have been incredibly emotional for Everton and the fans, with battles against relegation running deep into the season.

Both times though the presence and atmosphere created by the fans of the club at Goodison Park have been a huge factor in the success of the team and their Premier League status being maintained.

So in an ideal world that won’t be the case in 2024/25, as they will be hoping to be pushing far higher up the table and instead potentially competing for a place in Europe rather than trying to avoid the Championship.

It’s easy to forget that the club would have finished in 11th without their eight-point deduction in the 2023/24 season for financial breaches, and another season like that would see a great party at Goodison Park next year.

It will be emotional for the fans and also players like Seamus Coleman who have dedicated their careers to the club, and well done to the board and Premier League for giving it the platform it deserves for a farewell.
