Jarrad Branthwaite must force through Everton exit to seal Manchester United transfer

Jarrad Branthwaite has not told Everton that he wants to join Manchester United after their opening bid was rejected, according to iNews.

Writing on their website (18 June), the news outlet reports that the club are adamant they will not sell the 21-year-old defender for less than £70million although their ideal asking price is set at £80million.

Branthwaite has agreed on personal terms over a move to Old Trafford, but the Toffees have not been made aware of his desire to move and the defender may have to push through a move to get the wheels in motion for a transfer, with insiders insisting a move is far from cut and dried.

Everton position strengthens in transfer saga with Manchester United

The Toffees are expected to make sales during the summer window, but it now seems as though Amadou Onana could be the man who is moved on rather than Branthwaite.

The Belgium international has been vocal about his hope of a move after Euro 2024 (Pieter Jan-Calcoen, 1 June) and the club know they can make a fair profit on him with a £50million move, which would also solve their PSR issues.

Branthwaite on the other hand is someone they are incredibly keen to keep hold of if they can, and they have zero intentions of dropping their asking price to help Erik Ten Hag’s side strengthen.

With Manchester United baulking at the asking price and Branthwaite not pushing for a move away from Goodison Park, the chances of him staying are growing all the time.

After signing a new deal earlier in the season too Everton are in a strong position to keep their star man, and fans’ optimism is growing about the situation.

In other Everton news, the club have held talks with a World Cup-winning free agent about a move this summer.
