Fabrizio Romano shares Jack Harrison update as Everton, Leeds United talks continue
The deal for Everton to sign Jack Harrison on a second loan from Leeds United has been branded a “concrete possibility” by Fabrizio Romano, but the two clubs are still working on the final details.
Romano revealed the news on X [19 June], citing Nancy Froston’s report the same day that former Everton loanee Harrison will spend the 2024-25 season back at Goodison Park.
Harrison’s wages will be solely Everton’s responsibility, but Leeds will not receive a loan fee for the 27-year-old.
Romano said: “Everton are close to signing Jack Harrison on loan deal from Leeds United, as Nancy Froston reports.
“His return is concrete possibility, waiting to clarify some details in order to make it happen soon.”
Jack Harrison set to return from Leeds United to Everton
Whilst not a major game-changer for Everton in the Premier League last campaign, Harrison was certainly an important cog and a functional man in Sean Dyche’s system.
Everton’s perspective will be that a repeat of the loan is a no-brainer, but for Leeds it is a mixture of comfort that no wage contributions will be required, along with frustration at no immediate loan fee to help balance June’s books.
Leeds are chasing concrete fees for players within the coming days in order to stave off the financial burden, but Harrison removed from the wage bill will at least be a welcome factor, and the club realistically did not expect him to be part of Daniel Farke’s squad next season in the Championship in any case.
Everton will welcome the deal due to the financial implications of their own, with a player on what is essentially a free transfer for the year will certainly provide a boost and allow funds to be spent elsewhere.
