Premier League praised over handling of Everton takeover saga
Finance expert Kieran Maguire believes the Premier League deserve credit for effectively blocking the 777 Partners takeover of Everton.
The American investment fund looked certain to buy out Farhad Moshiri at one point, only to encounter a number of issues.
777 ultimately saw its exclusivity period with Moshiri expire at the end of last month and a number of other interested parties have stepped forward.
Dan Friedkin now looks set to purchase the Toffees in far more positive news, and Maguire insists the Premier League must take some praise.
“They come in for a lot of stick at times, but you’ve got to give credit to the Premier League,” he said on the The Price of Football podcast [20 June, 16m 19s].
“While they cannot veto a deal, they put up a set of barriers that were so high that made it effectively impossible for 777 to pass the test.
“So they deserve a pat on the back, albeit that won’t go down well with parts of the Everton fanbase. You have to look at it through a business lens.”
Everton takeover now on verge of completion
After months and months of speculation and doom-mongering, the Everton takeover situation finally appears to be edging towards a conclusion.
It had become clear a long time ago that 777 Partners were not viable candidates to buy out Moshiri given their shady finances.
The fear was the, having pumped so much into the club already, Everton risked going into administration if 777 failed to complete a takeover.
As has become quite clear over the past few weeks, however, there are plenty of people out there desperate to take control at Goodison Park.

The Friedkin Group are one such party, and the vast majority of supporters will be happy to see them replace Moshiri.
All that is left now is for the deal to be ratified and official confirmation to arrive. Only then – finally – can Everton draw a line under this whole saga.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are said to have tabled a bid for a new striker abroad.
