Fabrizio Romano issues Yankuba Minteh update as Everton hold new transfer talks
Lyon have joined Everton in the race to secure the services of Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The journalist reported on 23 June that the Toffees are in talks with the Magpies over the sale of the 19-year-old but aren’t the only interested party.
The French club have put the Gambia international on their transfer shortlist ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Via Twitter, Romano wrote: “Olympique Lyon enter in the race to sign Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle.
“OL made contact with Minteh’s camp in the recent hours, he’s part of the shortlist.
“Everton remain also in the race showing concrete interest in the recent days after club to club talks.”
Yankuba Minteh will be a quality addition for Everton
The club’s interest in Minteh makes sense as the 19-year-old has shown great promise during his loan spell at Feyenoord.
The Gambian’s pace and dribbling ability make him an exciting prospect who could add a new dimension to Everton’s attack.
However, Everton must avoid getting drawn into a bidding war for Minteh.
The Toffees are under financial pressure and cannot afford to overspend on any one player.
They need to strengthen several positions this summer and must allocate their resources wisely.
They should make a reasonable offer for Minteh and be prepared to walk away if Newcastle demand an excessive fee.
There are likely to be other talented young wingers available at a more affordable price.
In the end, Minteh could be a good signing for the club if the price is right but they must stick to their valuation and not be tempted to break the bank for the Gambian winger.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have now issued contact with their Premier League rivals to sign a midfielder who recently won the Champions League.
