Ben Godfrey to jet away on Friday as Everton transfer update emerges
Everton defender Ben Godfrey will fly out to undergo a medical with Atalanta on Friday (28 June), according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Thursday (27 June) that Atalanta and Everton had agreed a deal for the 26-year-old.
Atalanta will pay the Toffees an initial fee of £8.4million plus £1.7million in add-ons.
Ben Godfrey prepares to say goodbye to Everton and Goodison Park
It looks as though Godfrey’s Goodison Park exit is as good as confirmed. Therefore, supporters should prepare to say their goodbyes.
Atalanta have acted quickly to secure the defender’s signature which demonstrates how much they wanted to sign the player.
This will come as a welcome boost to Godfrey who will no doubt be excited about the prospect of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Atalanta qualified for Europe’s elite competition as a result of their UEFA Europa League victory last month.
It is a fantastic move for Godfrey and also a fantastic move for the Toffees, who receive a much-needed cash boost at the expense of a player who hardly featured under Sean Dyche last season.
Godfrey played just 15 times in the Premier League for Everton and will therefore hope to feature much more regularly with his new club.
Godfrey will say goodbye to the Toffees after almost four years with the club after joining from Norwich City in 2020.
