Jarrad Branthwaite exit update shared at Everton amid Manchester United news
Other clubs are not expected to pounce to secure Everton gem Jarrad Branthwaite following a new update at Manchester United, according to Chris Beesley.
United had seen a reported £35million offer knocked back by the Toffees this summer despite agreeing personal terms with the defender and they now seem unlikely to return with a new bid [i News, 1 July].
While several of Europe’s other elite clubs have been tipped to hold an interest in the England international, Liverpool Echo journalist Beesly doesn’t believe any will submit a formal offer to the Toffees imminently.
Speaking on the Royal Blue Mersey (2 July) he said: “I don’t know if it is a concern, I know the last couple of days there has been a little talk about Manchester City but I don’t know how substantial that is.
“I don’t know if there’s much substance in it, it’s maybe one they’re keeping their eyes on. All the top clubs should have their eye on Jarrad Branthwaite.
“Of course, the biggest clubs in the world are going to be looking at him, but as far as I understand there’s nobody else imminent.
“It does seem that United have been the ones this summer who were going to make a move, you never know who could make a move at any point because things change all the time in football but it’s not that I’m overly concerned somebody else will come in now.
“Whoever it is they’re going to have to pay top dollar.”
Will Jarrad Branthwaite exit Everton amid Manchester City transfer links?
As Beesley suggests, there will be clubs all around Europe keeping an eye on Branthwaite and his development, but that doesn’t mean any of them will be willing to match Everton’s valuation this summer.
While the 22-year-old is undoubtedly worth the fee Sean Dyche’s side is looking for in this transfer window, there will be very few clubs able to match that price, especially with financial fair play concerns emerging all over the continent.
For the Toffees that is excellent news as it means they are much more likely to keep one of their most exciting talents for at least a further 12 months.
Branthwaite was key to Dyche’s success last term as he built an excellent partnership with James Tarkowski and it would have been a major blow to lose him so early in the summer.
Hopefully, no clubs will change their mind before the end of the window and submit a late bid for the centre-back. Losing him now would have been a blow, but losing him on the eve of the season could be disastrous.
