Everton 2023-24 squad regular joins new club after long-term stay at Goodison Park
Former Everton player Mackenzie Hunt has signed a two-year deal with Fleetwood Town after being released by the Toffees earlier this summer.
The transfer was confirmed by the fourth-tier side on their official website on Thursday (4 July).
Hunt, who joined Everton’s Academy at the age of six, was a regular on the bench last season, being named as a substitute 17 times in the Premier League.
Despite his frequent presence, the 22-year-old never made a senior appearance for the club.
Hunt had been with Everton since he was 13 and played for both the U18s and U21s in recent years.
The midfielder will wear the number 16 for Fleetwood and is set to debut during pre-season.
Everton departure is a good move for Mackenzie Hunt
Hunt’s departure from Everton could be the best move for his career right now.
After spending nearly a decade at Goodison Park, the 22-year-old midfielder found himself frequently on the bench last season but never made a senior appearance.
While this gave him a taste of first-team action, it also highlighted the challenges of breaking into a Premier League squad.
By signing with Fleetwood, Hunt now has the opportunity to step out of the shadows and carve out his own path.

At Fleetwood, he will likely see more playing time, which is crucial for his development and confidence.
Moreover, the move can reignite his passion and drive, allowing him to show his skills regularly.
Hunt’s time at Everton laid a strong foundation, but the change of scenery could be exactly what he needs to fulfil his potential and make a significant impact elsewhere.
In other Everton news, the club have stepped up their interest in Jaden Philogene.
