Man United not giving up on Everton gem Jarrad Branthwaite in £80m transfer claim
Manchester United remain determined to secure Jarrad Branthwaite, despite Everton using the £80million spent to sign Harry Maguire as a valuation yardstick, according to Ben Jacobs.
The journalist claimed to GiveMeSport [5 July] that the club’s need for a new central defender has intensified following Raphael Varane’s departure and Lisandro Martinez’s injury woes, making Branthwaite a prime target on their radar.
Despite Everton’s reluctance to budge on their massive asking price, United’s interest remains and it’s motivated by Branthwaite’s potential.
Jacobs added: “Manchester United haven’t given up on Jarrad Branthwaite yet. They just have no intention of paying the £70million plus that, at the moment, Everton are looking for.
“But Branthwaite remains keen on that move, so we definitely can’t rule him out. Something’s just got to give on the negotiation side, from Everton’s perspective.”
Should Everton stay firm in their valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite?
Everton’s decision to hold firm on Branthwaite’s valuation reflects their belief in his talent and the club’s strategy in today’s competitive transfer market.
It’s about more than just the price tag – it’s about recognising Branthwaite’s potential and ensuring fair compensation for a player they’ve invested in and developed.
In football, negotiations are often a delicate dance between clubs aiming to secure the best deal for their future while respecting the player’s aspirations.
Everton’s stance shows they’re serious about building a strong squad and maximising their resources.

However, there’s always a balance to strike between sticking to a valuation and the risk of losing out on potential deals or upsetting player ambitions.
For the Toffees, maintaining their valuation of Branthwaite isn’t just about the money – it’s a statement of intent about their ambitions for next season.
However, it remains to be seen how this strategy will play out this summer.
