Everton race Ipswich Town for Jaden Philogene as Sky Sports journalist shares latest transfer news
Jaden Philogene favours a move to Ipswich Town rather than Everton this summer, according to Alan Myers‘ latest update.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via Twitter on 9 July that his latest information was the winger wants to join the newly-promoted side, having reported earlier the same day that a deal looked possible as the player was open to joining the Toffees.
Paul Joyce of The Times had separately reported that Everton have a £16million deal in place with the Tigers and believe Philogene wants to join Sean Dyche’s side, but Myers has now heard differently and has most recently rated the club’s chances of completing the deal at “no more than 50%”.
He wrote: “Now being told Philogene favours a move to Ipswich Town, go figure! (As they say in the good ‘ole USA).”
Everton have deal in place with Hull City for Jaden Philogene
The 22-year-old appears to have his pick of a number of clubs looking to sign him this summer, with Crystal Palace among others to have come forward [TEAMtalk, 5 July].
Despite the financial situation at Goodison Park looking more positive than had been feared through last season’s chaos off the field it would be risky to push too far with their offer to the Hull man.
Ipswich are clearly being ambitious after their return to the Premier League as it looks like they are set to beat the Toffees to another target in Jacob Greaves, while it has emerged that they have also reached an agreement for Manchester City’s Liam Delap [David Ornstein, 9 July].
The opportunity is there for Philogene at Everton since the attacking options are hardly overwhelming despite the signing of Iliman Ndiaye and the return of Jack Harrison on loan.
Dyche and Thelwell will no doubt be disappointed if they miss out on a deal here but are said to be looking at other options already according to Myers.
If they think the English wide man is a vital part of the plan going forward then they could push the boat out, but if they feel the offer they have put forward is sufficient and he opts to head to Portman Road then it is simply how the window works sometimes and will be far from the first target to end up elsewhere in recent windows.
