Everton takeover ongoing as update emerges on potential issues with Dan Friedkin deal
Dan Friedkin’s Everton takeover remains “ongoing” and there has been no indication of problems arising so far, according to Alan Myers.
Responding to a supporter via X on 9 July the Sky Sports journalist indicated that the process was still on track and that he had “not heard about any issues”.
It had emerged via a Paul Joyce report in The Times earlier the same day that the takeover was not a formality, with “plenty” of potential complications remaining as Friedkin does due diligence, but that currently appears to be a cautionary update rather than an indication that the deal has been derailed.
The American’s group has been granted a period of exclusivity after reaching an agreement with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.

Anything that could threaten the proposed purchase of the Toffees by the Roma chief is understandably going to be a concern for an Evertonian fanbase that has been through two years of false dawns on the ownership front.
There have been indications already of potential stumbling blocks behind the scenes as Friedkin conducts due diligence, but so far there has been no suggestion that problems have actually been encountered.
While the specific details of the situation at Goodison Park will only become clear to him during the current discovery period he will surely have been well aware of the complicated nature of the club’s predicament when he made the winning bid earlier this summer.
777 Partners may have failed to get their own takeover done throughout last season but their £200million-plus in loans remain, meaning Everton are not entirely separated from the subsequent chaos that has engulfed the embattled firm, with main lender A-Cap remaining involved as a creditor as a result.
Friedkin has already paid off loans from former rival bidders MSP Sports Capital, while providing more working capital to the club, to partially reduce the number of parties owed large sums [Liverpool Echo, 24 June].
So in terms of actual developments the outlook remains hopeful even if the reality is that, as so often during Moshiri’s reign, the potential for a negative turn can’t be entirely ruled out.
