Everton agree formal proposal for Amadou Onana after Aston Villa transfer development

Everton have formally agreed to a £50million deal with Aston Villa to sell Amadou Onana, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on his personal X account (13 July), the reliable transfer journalist reports that the clubs have agreed on the fee plus a sell-on clause for the Toffees.

Onana will sign a five-year deal at Villa Park next week, with a medical currently being booked for the Belgium star.

Everton plan for the future with Amadou Onana sale to Aston Villa

Everyone was expecting Onana to be sold this summer, with the player making it abundantly clear that he would be looking to move on [Pieter-Jan Calcoen, 1 June], and so it has come to fruition.

But while the £50m fee is something that most fans were anticipating, the sell-on clause will come as a handy token if Onana is to perform to the level that many know he could potentially reach.

At Everton his physical attributes have been used more in a defensive way, and that has often taken away from his technical qualities considering that the Toffees usually have less of the ball than their opponents.

He could now go on to show himself in the Champions League to be a top player and if Aston Villa ever look to sell him on for mega money then at least the Blues have covered themselves to get a reward for that too.

It’s a good deal for everyone and it’s one of those rare situations where everybody wins. Everton make their money, Aston Villa fill a problem position and Onana gets his move.
