Everton look at new transfers after takeover update on Sky Sports

Everton continue to examine the possibility of new signings at Goodison Park ahead of the Dan Friedkin takeover, according to Sky Sports.

The report [16 July] shares that the club will likely need to sell a big-name player to make an equally substantial signing for the squad, with Amadou Onana set for Aston Villa.

They will, however, continue their due diligence on potential incomings in the case of Friedkin’s proposed takeover being completed, with the expectation being that it’ll happen soon (Gazzetta dello Sport, 6 July).

Who will stay and who will go for Everton?

There’s already been a lot of movement from the blue half of Merseyside in the summer transfer window.

Ben Godfrey and Lewis Dobbin are gone, whereas Iliman Ndiaye has made his way over from Marseille, alongside Tim Iroegbunam and Jack Harrison.

If they’re going to have any more new faces appear, changes will likely have to be made. Everton have some big hitters like Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin who are certainly sought after, but they need to make their potential exits worth it.

Onana is on the verge of a move to Aston Villa for £50million, which in itself is a huge deal.

At the same time, even if a takeover is imminent, there’s less than a month to go until the start of the new Premier League campaign.

At this point, stability is key. Sean Dyche knows how to work with limited resources and although big spending would certainly excite the Toffees’ faithful fanbase, perhaps it isn’t the priority.

Everton are gearing up for big changes on and off the pitch, and it feels like they’re still a distance away from getting real answers.
