Everton ready to sign Wilfried Gnonto as new transfer development emerges

Everton believe that a fee in the region of £22million could be enough to sign Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto, according to Planet Sport.

The outlet reported on 16 June that despite having a £25m bid rejected last season, the Toffees think they can sign the Italian for a smaller fee this summer.

Sean Dyche’s men aren’t alone in the chase for the attacker though as both Newcastle and Aston Villa have also been linked with a move for the Italian.

Everton should sign Willy Gnonto this summer

The Toffees needed a rebuild this summer. The last few seasons have been fairly difficult for the Merseyside club as they have been dragged into a relegation dogfight more often than not.

Last term was arguably the toughest as the club suffered an eight-point deduction which many thought would be their demise.

Fortunately, for Everton however, the three promoted teams were far worse than they were and Dyche’s men managed to create a nice cushion between them and the relegation zone, ending the season in 15th.

Iliman Ndiaye has already been brought in to help in the goals department but if the addition of Gnonto becomes a reality, especially for a fee of £22million, it would be a stellar acquisition.

Especially if Dominic Calvert-Lewin exits Goodison Park [Daily Mail, 16 July] this summer as they will no doubt need a replacement as he is the main focal point of their attack.

Granted, Beto still plies his trade for the Merseyside club but because of the poor form he showed throughout last season, his returns are too unreliable for Dyche to solely rely upon.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are readying themselves for the transfer of Arthur Melo this summer.
