Aston Villa on verge of double signing with Everton ace Amadou Onana included
Aston Villa are on the verge of signing two players, including Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported via X on Thursday (18 July) that Jaden Philogene is signing his long-term contract at Villa Park.
In addition, Onana is set to sign his contract with the club once he returns from his holidays.
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana set to quit Goodison Park and sign for Aston Villa
This update will likely frustrate supporters at Goodison Park for two reasons.
In the process of signing both these players, Unai Emery’s side are delivering something of a double-body blow to the Toffees.
First and foremost is of course the loss of Onana, which is a big hit to the club’s midfield options.
However, that blow will be softened by the fee that the club are set to receive for the player, as that will help Everton continue to balance the books at Goodison Park.
While fans would likely have been keen to keep hold of Onana, there was an inevitability around the Belgian’s eventual departure this summer.
However, what is more frustrating is that his departure comes at the same time that Villa are singing another player.
A player who Everton were also interested in.
Philogene was a target at Goodison Park, but it looks like Villa have won that race in the end (via The Athletic, 10 July).
That means Sean Dyche must now find a new midfielder to replace Onana, as well as an alternative attacking target.
In other Everton news, one player at the club is keen to live in London amid West Ham transfer speculation.
