Everton administration fears emerge instantly as Friedkin takeover collapses
Everton fears over going into administration havev emerged after it was announced the Dan Friedkin takeover deal at the club has fallen through, according to iNews.
George Simms reported on Friday morning [19 July] that worries of administration have become immediate following the second takeover collapse in the space of three months.
Friedkin’s group have withdrawn from talks primarily due to concerns over the £200m+ sum owed to former prospective buyers 777 Partners [The Athletic, 19 July], whose high-profile legal issues are now being overseen by insolvency experts – with the debt itself controlled by original lenders A-Cap.
Already owners of Serie A giant Roma, Friedkin’s party are already the secured lender on the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium development, having lent Everton £200m.
Everton staring down financial barrel again
The devastating news whilst Everton stood on the takeover precipice means the club are now back to square one.
As amicably as Moshiri and Friedkin appear to have backed away from negotiations, this does little to convince Toffees supporters that they will not be battling the world in the Premier League again this season.
Following the club’s eight points’ worth of deductions last term for breaching Profit & Sustainability Regulations in 2022 and 2023, administration would guarantee to trump that figure with the previous Premier League punishment totalling nine points, as with Portsmouth in 2010.

Negotiations appeared to be advanced – the two parties were in a period of exclusivity much like the case with 777 – and the Goodison support would have been forgiven for seeing a beaming light at the end of the tunnel.
But now Everton must find a new buyer and fast, with the hundreds of millions owed to various lenders by the club and the new season approaching in less than a month’s time.
In other Everton news, Manchester United reportedly launched a late rally to attempt to hijack Aston Villa’s deal for Amadou Onana.
