Everton update emerges amid Colombia star Richard Rios transfer links

BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez has cleared the air with regard to the reports linking Everton with a move for Richard Rios.

UOL reported on 18 July that the Toffees had made contact to sign the Colombia Copa America 2024 midfielder, with a deal likely to cost north of £16million.

However, the Toffees are not understood to be keen on the 24-year-old, as things stand.

Via X, Hafez wrote: “Everton interested in signing Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli. Club looking to bring in another winger this summer.

“Toffees currently have no interest in Colombian midfielder Richard Rios.”

Richard Rios would actually be a stellar signing for Everton

The Toffees must reconsider their stance on Rios as he has shown his quality on the international stage, impressing at the Copa America 2024 and being a key player for Colombia.

His performances indicate that he has the potential to make a significant impact in the Premier League.

With the potential departure of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa, the Merseyside outfit are in need of defensive reinforcements.

The 24-year-old could provide the necessary depth and quality in the midfield, helping Everton maintain a competitive edge in the league.

He can operate from the right side of central midfield, providing the Toffees with tactical flexibility and options in their midfield setup.

A £16million valuation for Rios is reasonable for a player of his potential and current form and given how inflated the market is, he could actually be a cost-effective Onana replacement.

In other Everton news, a Toffees shareholder has reacted to a claim of Gareth Southgate potentially taking over the reins from Sean Dyche.
