Everton financial unsustainability on the cards with fresh takeover twist

Everton may be set for an unsustainable future as the Friedkin Group have ended talks to buy a majority stake in the club, according to Josimar journalist Paul Brown.

New York Times’ Tariq Panja slammed the operations at the club and described them as “Awful”.

He believes that their business model appears to be to borrow money from anyone who is in talks to buy the club.

Panja wrote on X: “Everton’s business model under Moshiri now seems to be borrow money off anyone who might have been in talks to buy the club. Friedkin now a lender, after deal called off. Follows 777 and A-Cap and others. Hard to see this whole situation not blowing up. Awful for staff and fans.”

To which Brown replied: “Unsustainable certainly.”

Everton have plenty to do to turn things around after this takeover mess

The Toffees face a critical juncture following the collapse of the Friedkin Group’s takeover talks, which was rightly pointed out by Everton insider Bryan King on 7 July.

The club’s financial sustainability is under question, with concerns about its borrowing practices from potential buyers.

Firstly, the club needs to stabilise their financial situation by seeking reliable and sustainable sources of funding.

This might involve restructuring existing debts and exploring partnerships with credible investors.

They should also focus on enhancing revenue streams as this could include maximizing the commercial potential of the new stadium, fostering better player development to reduce reliance on expensive transfers and improving on-pitch performance to attract more sponsorships and gate receipts.

It’s paramount that there is transparency and accountability in its operations to rebuild trust among stakeholders.

This includes effective communication with fans, creditors and regulatory bodies and hopefully, there is a commitment to long-term financial planning aligned with the club’s values and ambitions.
