Everton to hand Jarrad Branthwaite ‘Huge’ pay rise after blocking Manchester United transfer

Everton will offer Jarrad Branthwaite a “huge” pay rise after blocking his transfer to Manchester United, according to The Mirror.

Writing on their website (20 July), the news outlet report that “plans are in place” to offer the 22-year-old defender new and improved terms after pricing him out of a move to Old Trafford, despite personal terms worth £160,000 per-week being agreed.

Branthwaite signed a new and improved contract to tie him to the Toffees until 2027 last season and now earns £40,000 per-week, but the plan is to give him a huge boost “to compensate for him missing out on an Old Trafford pay bonanza”.

Everton to give Jarrad Branthwaite a new contract

The situation at Goodison Park has always been the same with Branthwaite – he’s not for sale unless you offer £70million.

Manchester United were never looking to do that and therefore the club have always been calm, even when the Friedkin Group takeover collapsed, as the plan has never changed.

But with Branthwaite’s importance to the club’s present and future so obvious now, it’s clear that he should be rewarded for that with a contract that reflects his status and the plan is now in place [Liverpool Echo, 16 July].

£160,000 is unlikely to be matched because of the club’s financial problems, but he certainly deserves to be earning more than the reported £40,000 he is currently on judging by some of the other wages on offer.

It will also help the club in future transfer windows as it will improve their leverage, and it could be that a release clause is inserted in any deal so that there is a clear agreement between everyone for what his future holds.

In other Everton news, the club’s plan to raise funds after the Friedkin Group takeover collapsed has been shared by David Ornstein.
