Beto shares four-word update on Everton future after Alan Myers transfer news

Everton striker Beto has made it clear that his focus is on fighting for his place at the club after being linked with a move away from Goodison Park.

Serie A and Champions League side Bologna are reportedly interested in the striker’s services (Alan Myers, 17 July) despite a quiet debut season on Merseyside last time out.

Beto has spoken briefly about his short-term future at Goodison during Everton’s pre-season training camp in Ireland.

In a short and sweet reply, he was quoted by the Liverpool Echo on 21 July as saying: “My focus is on Everton.”

Will Everton put their trust in Beto?

While the takeover rumours persist off the pitch, Everton boss Sean Dyche can only build his team based on what he’s seeing on it. Last season, Beto made 30 Premier League appearances for the Toffees – and in that time, he was only able to score three goals (FBref).

Beto’s future remains uncertain

Some may put that down to him adjusting to the physicality of English football, but at the age of 26, now is the time for him to start proving himself on the big stage. He thrived during his years with Udinese but on Merseyside, he isn’t the biggest dog in the yard anymore.

For Everton, they’ll be well aware of the interest from around Europe for star forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin. With the first team typically playing one up front last season, you’d have to imagine it will be a case of “one or the other” regarding outgoings this summer – and we think Beto is up for the challenge.
