Everton work to sign defensive help amid update on Manchester United ace Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Everton are working to bring in defensive reinforcements but it won’t be exit-linked Old Trafford full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, says Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded via X on 26 July to dismiss interest in the Manchester United defender while indicating that a left-back is on the cards instead.

HITC had previously reported on 26 June that the Toffees were interested in the English right-back who has entered the final year of his contract, but Myers says that is not the case.

Asked if the club are focusing on a left-back along with an enquiry about Wan-Bissaka the reporter said: “We are but not him.”.

Sean Dyche eyes Everton deals as Vitalii Mykolenko linked with exit

The full-back positions at Goodison Park have been in a state of flux throughout the relegation threatened past three seasons ever since Rafa Benitez decided to get rid of Lucas Digne.

Vitalii Mykolenko has arguably made the left-sided spot his own now but Sean Dyche has still seen fit to use both Ashley Young and Ben Godfrey there during his time at the club.

The Ukrianian also has transfer interest from Napoli, according to on Area Napoli on 16 July, so any move away would make the position a major priority since Godfrey is also now in Serie A with Atalanta.

On the right there are more options although none seem to be established long-term options, unless Nathan Patterson’s physical transformation over the summer (Liverpool Echo, 19 July) is set to win over the manager.

Dyche has never seemed convinced by the ex-Rangers full-back and was involved in an awkward misunderstanding with him in Portugal last season (Daily Mail, 15 March).

Following Godfrey’s exit there is only the Scot, 39-year-old Ashley Young or 35-year-old Seamus Coleman after the latter pair agreed one-year contract extensions, although the captain has had increasing injury issues.

So there is clear logic in targeting help on either side of the back line, as well as a third centre-back, and it is perhaps a surprise that Wan-Bissaka isn’t on the list when he looks to be available this summer.
