Mackenzie Hunt shares Everton frustration after Goodison Park exit
Former Everton youngster Mackenzie Hunt has expressed his frustration after leaving the club for Fleetwood Town this summer.
For the longest time, Hunt was hoping to make an impact for the Toffees. Earlier this year, it even seemed as if he may be in line for a cameo after appearing on the bench 18 times.
Alas, it didn’t come to fruition. Now, the academy graduate has spoken to The National (7 August) about some of the things he wasn’t happy with at the club.
“I felt like I was training well and doing all the right things, but the club was in a tough spot and the manager likes experience,” Hunt said.
“It was frustrating for me but it was also a good experience to be on the bench that many times as well. I felt like I was training well and there was a time when the left-back was injured I thought I had a chance of coming on or playing, but it didn’t happen in the end.”
A new Everton trend
For as long as we can remember, Everton has been a club that prides itself on bringing through young talent. The most notable example would be Wayne Rooney, but of course, it extends far beyond the former Manchester United legend.

Alas, at this moment in time, the priority for Sean Dyche seems to be experience. Even in recent days, the boss has made it clear that he wants Premier League experience in the squad. There’s nothing wrong with that, but there’s also something to be said for giving young, hungry players a chance to succeed.
There are clearly issues ongoing off the pitch and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. So, aiming for stability is the best course of action. With that being said, the results speak for themselves, and Everton have been battling against relegation for a good few years now.
They’ll likely try and be as busy as possible in the weeks that lie ahead. They may even put their trust in some other youngsters within their ranks. Even so, you have to wonder what happened with Hunt to warrant the exit.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been given the green light to sign a new striker.
