Richarlison to Everton verdict emerges as big-money Tottenham transfer confirmed
Richarlison making an emotional return to Everton during the transfer window is highly-unlikely to happen, says Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist reacted to a question from a fan via X on 10 August about possible hope for the Brazilian to return to Goodison Park amid uncertainty over his Tottenham future.
Spurs have confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke after agreeing a £65million deal with Bournemouth for [BBC Sport, 9 August]. Richarlison has turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia as he wants to remain in the Premier League [ESPN, 8 August] but Myers doesn’t expect that to be back on Merseyside.
He said: “Nothing in football really surprises me anymore but I would be if that happened”.
Everton move not likely after Bournemouth star arrives at Spurs
Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell may need to bring in a striker this summer if Dominic Calvert-Lewin is sold, with the Englishman not signing a contract extension after the collapse of the Dan Friedkin takeover [The Times, 19 July].
Beto has also emerged as a transfer target for Atalanta, although Everton don’t want to sell [Calcio Mercato, 7 August] and Youssef Chermiti has been ruled out for weeks with a foot injury.
There would be few more popular options among the fanbase than Richarlison as the Brazilian had a great relationship with the supporters before his departure two years ago.
But although his £60m fee was below what the Goodison hierarchy were hoping for and a dispute emerged following the deal [Daily Mail, 20 November] it surely makes a return unaffordable.
Armando Broja from Chelsea has been linked throughout the summer and is set to leave Stamford Bridge [Mirror, 7 August].
Richarlison’s form in the capital has been short of what he used to produce for the Toffees but he would still be the preferred choice over the Albanian international.
But unless Spurs were willing to sanction some sort of loan agreement it is difficult to see that becoming a reality.
In other Everton news, John Textor is already facing a “huge issue” in his latest attempt to buy the Toffees.
