Everton announce signing of defender from English club, 3-year deal penned today

Everton have confirmed the signing of teenage defender William Tamen from Burton Albion.

The Toffees announced the news via the academy team’s official X account on Tuesday (13 August).

Tamen has signed a three-year deal at Goodison Park and will initially be part of the age-grade sides.

Everton look ahead to a brighter future

Supporters are more interested in £10million-plus signings than bringing in youth talent, of course, but this is smart business by the club.

Indeed, according to The Athletic [13 August], Everton had been eager to finalise a deal for Tamen after the youngster impressed on trial.

Not a great deal is known about the 18-year-old, but he is at an age in which he could realistically be challenging for first-team football soon.

Nobody is expecting Tamen to be anywhere near the first-team squad for next week’s clash with Brighton, but that could soon change.

Tamen will look to impress for the Under-23s side in the same way that he caught the eye during his trial.

This is a transfer that will not reap any sort of rewards for a while yet, but the club deserve praise for scouting a player who clearly has promise.

In other Everton news, a striker has been offered to the Toffees with an exit from his current club on the cards.
