Everton news as claim emerges on two new transfers ahead of 30 August deadline

Everton can build on the progress of last season if they bring in one or two more new players, according to Michael Ball.

The former Toffees left-back believes that the decision to not go on tour in pre-season has also benefited Sean Dyche and the players.

He’s also been pleased with the transfers made by the Toffees, with Tim Iroegbunam catching his eye.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo [12 August], Ball said: “As frustrating as that breakdown was, I still think the summer has been positive. The new signings have brought some excitement and, of those additions, I have been most impressed with Tim Iroegbunam.

“We are now seeing the payback of so much hard work – and perhaps of the team staying close to home.

“Unlike others, this is not a squad that will be suffering from jetlag, it is not a team that has been constantly on the move, so Dyche has been able to maximise time on the training ground.

“Hopefully, we will see the benefit of that heading into the opening weeks of the season, and if the club can add one or two more players then there has to be a belief Everton can build on the progress of last season.

“We all want to see a continued improvement and the building blocks – on the pitch at least – look like they may have been put into place.”

Everton need to bring in a quality midfielder and full-back before the window closes

The Toffees’ need for a quality midfielder and full-back before the transfer window closes is crucial for their continued improvement and building on last season’s progress.

The departure of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa has left a significant gap in the midfield that needs to be filled urgently.

Everton should prioritise finding a replacement who can provide the same versatility and defensive solidity that Onana offered.

Ideally, the Toffees should also target a player who can emulate the role played by Ben Godfrey who left this summer, who can cover multiple positions across the back line, including right-back, centre-back and left-back in case of an injury crisis.

This would provide much-needed depth and flexibility to the squad, allowing Sean Dyche to adapt to different tactical situations and cover for potential injuries.

Hopefully, Kevin Thelwell is working overtime to ensure that Dyche gets the players he desires for next season.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are now looking to complete another transfer as a £10m+ development has emerged.
