Everton v Brighton team news – Sean Dyche issues Branthwaite, Coleman updates

Everton kick-start their Premier League campaign with a home game against Brighton at Goodison Park on Saturday, 15 August.

Youssef Chermiti is a long-term injury absentee and is not expected back soon.

Seamus Coleman is also ruled out with a calf injury while Jarrad Branthwaite, Nathan Patterson and James Garner are set to be out as well.

Dyche has been paraphrased as saying: “Seamus Coleman and Jarrad Branthwaite look set to miss Brighton, as do Nathan Patterson and James Garner. Dyche does not elaborate much on them, other than to suggest Garner is not far off.”

Everton will certainly be fancying their chances against Brighton

The Toffees will be fancying their chances as under Dyche, they have shown resilience and a solid defensive structure, which could trouble Brighton’s possession-based play.

His tactical setup, often involving a compact, aggressive low/mid-block, has been effective in neutralising teams like the Seagulls, who prefer to build up play from the back.

Everton’s home advantage at Goodison Park, where the atmosphere can lift the team, might play a psychological role.

The Blues have also managed to keep key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose form could be pivotal, especially if Brighton struggle to break through.

With new signings like Jesper Lindstrom and Iliman Ndiaye, the hosts might have the freshness and tactical flexibility to surprise Brighton, who are adapting to a new managerial style under Fabian Hurzeler.
