John Textor takeover at Everton suffers setback amid new asking price verdict

Paul Brown has claimed that the offers made to John Textor to purchase his Crystal Palace shares are nowhere near his asking price, potentially delaying a takeover at Everton.

The journalist was responding via his personal X account [22 August] to a report that Textor is considering two offers for his 45-per-cent stake in Palace [The Guardian, 22 August].

While that was viewed as a positive development from the Toffees’ perspective, with Textor in an exclusivity period with Farhad Moshiri, that may not be the case.

Brown wrote: “Key thing here is that to my knowledge none of these offers are anywhere near his asking price.

“How keen he is to do this will depend on how big a hit he’s willing to take. Palace situation is complicated by fact Harris & Blitzer have also wanted out for some time.”

Everton takeover still not complete

Everton fans can be forgiven for thinking they have been here before. It is because they very much have.

777 Partners and the Friedkin Group were also in advanced talks with Moshiri, but neither could get a deal over the line.

Textor is far more credible, though, and his situation at Palace means that complication are inevitably going to arise.

The American needs to sell up his shares in the Eagles and he is very much trying to do that, but he will not just sell for any price.

The hope from Everton’s point of view is that a reasonable offer is made to Textor by one of the two interested parties.

If that is the case, the offer can be accepted and then it is a clear pathway to ousting Moshiri at Goodison Park.

We were initially led to believe a new owner could be in place by the end of this week, but it looks as though it could be a little while longer yet.
