Everton transfer news as David Ornstein shares £25m Scott McTominay update
Everton now look set to miss out on the signing of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay with him seemingly joining Napoli.
David Ornstein wrote in the Athletic on 25 August that the Toffees-linked Scotland international will be moving to Napoli who have reached a £25.4million agreement with the Old Trafford outfit.
The Toffees had made an inquiry over signing the 27-year-old, as reported by the Athletic on 13 August, but will now have to look elsewhere.
Sean Dyche will be fuming as Everton fail to seal McTominay transfer
Sean Dyche has every reason to be fuming with the club’s recruitment staff as McTominay was identified as an important transfer target for the club, indicating the manager’s belief in the midfielder’s ability to immediately impact the team with his Premier League experience and proven track record.
Missing out on him to Napoli not only weakens Everton’s squad depth but also signifies a missed opportunity to bolster their midfield with a player whose style aligns well with Dyche’s tactical approach.
With the transfer window nearing its close, the urgency to find a suitable alternative amplifies the pressure on the Toffees’ recruitment team.
This situation likely leaves the Englishman annoyed because it reflects on the club’s inability to act swiftly or persuasively in the transfer market, potentially due to financial constraints or negotiation tactics.

Now, with limited time left, the scramble for alternatives might lead to either panic buys or settling for less ideal candidates, compromising Dyche’s plans for the team’s composition and performance.
In other Everton news, Fabrizio Romano has issued an update as the Toffees are now eyeing the permanent transfer of a new defender.
